Less noise, more sunsets together.

Beaches • Onsen • Forest towns • Fuji views Designed for two people, not groups

Why choose Izu for a romantic trip?

Most couples visit Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hakone. They are beautiful—but also crowded and busy. The Izu Peninsula is different: close to the city, yet soft enough to feel like your own coastline, forest path, or hot spring town.

1–2 hours from Tokyo
Four regions with different moods
Hot springs, beaches, forests, Fuji
Perfect for couples & introverts
Izu Romance is not a “do everything” guide.
It is about choosing one beach, one small town, one onsen—and enjoying them fully with someone you love.

East, South, West, and Middle Izu

The peninsula has four main areas, each with its own style of quiet romance: accessible seaside towns, white-sand bays, dramatic sunset coasts, and forest hot spring villages.

EAST IZU

Hot Springs, Sea Views, and Easy Access

East Izu (Atami, Ito) is the most accessible part of the peninsula. It offers ocean-view onsen, relaxed seaside towns, and warm weather through most seasons. Perfect for first-time travelers, couples who enjoy gentle walks, and those who want a quiet resort feeling close to Tokyo.

  • Famous hot springs with sea views
  • Coastal promenades and calm beaches
  • Easy train access from Tokyo
  • Cafés, small museums, and soft resort towns
SOUTH IZU

White Sand, Clear Water, Gentle Tropics

South Izu (Shimoda and nearby villages) feels like a quiet, gentle tropical beach. White sand, bright light, slow waves, and a peaceful coastline with almost no crowds. Ideal for couples who want a bright, warm, relaxing seaside holiday.

  • Clear turquoise water and long white-sand beaches
  • Slow coastal buses and scenic drives
  • Simple seaside cafés with a light mood
  • Best for 2–4 day stays at a gentle pace
WEST IZU

Dramatic Sunsets and Rugged Coastlines

West Izu (Toi and surrounding areas) is known for its dramatic scenery: rocky shores, deep blue water, and some of Japan’s most beautiful sunsets. Great for travelers who enjoy photography, scenic drives, or a romantic evening by the sea.

  • Golden sunsets with Mount Fuji across the water
  • Rugged coastlines and cliffside viewpoints
  • Quiet hot springs with ocean panoramas
  • Nostalgic, slower atmosphere for two
MIDDLE IZU

Forests, Rivers, and Quiet Onsen Towns

Middle Izu (Shuzenji and inland areas) has no ocean—but offers a different kind of romance: forests, bamboo, old bridges, and hot spring steam rising through narrow streets. Perfect for couples who enjoy reading, slow walks, and peaceful evenings surrounded by nature.

  • Historic hot spring town with a calm, traditional mood
  • River paths and forest walks
  • Ryokan with private baths
  • A gentle base for rainy-day travel
You do not need to see everything.
Many couples choose one or two regions—for example, East + South, or Hakone + West + Middle Izu—to create a simple trip with very little rushing.

Soft moments you can have in Izu

Izu Romance focuses on experiences that feel gentle, slow, and quietly memorable—rather than “must-see” tourist checklists.

Fuji over the ocean at sunset

In West Izu, Mount Fuji appears like a quiet shadow above the water on clear evenings. The coastline turns gold and pink, and the waves become a soft background sound.

  • Less crowded than lake-side Fuji spots
  • Sunset-facing viewpoints made for two
  • Perfect for a slow walk before dinner

White-sand mornings in South Izu

South Izu’s beaches are wide, bright, and surprisingly peaceful. Morning walks, reading under a parasol, or simply listening to slow waves—no nightlife needed.

  • Space to breathe, even in high season
  • Cafés where you can just sit and watch the sea
  • Ideal for couples who love warm, light days

Forest paths and rivers in Middle Izu

Shuzenji and the inland valleys offer bamboo walks, riverside paths, and old wooden bridges. It feels like a small Kyoto hidden in the mountains—without the rush.

  • Best on rainy or cloudy days
  • Quiet reading spots and cafés
  • Onsen evenings after long, slow walks

Ocean-view onsen in East Izu

Atami and Ito are classic seaside onsen towns. A simple room, a balcony, a private or semi-private bath, and the sound of waves—often enough for a full trip.

  • Easy arrival from Tokyo
  • Good base for 1–2 nights
  • Combine with Hakone or other Izu regions

Where to stay for a quiet trip

Izu has everything from simple sea-view rooms to traditional ryokan with private baths. Izu Romance focuses on stays that feel intimate, warm, and quietly cared for.

Sea-view rooms

Simple rooms with a balcony and an ocean view are often all you need: a small table, two chairs, and soft morning light—ideal for doing almost nothing.

  • Gentle waves as background sound
  • Easy access to beaches and cafés
  • Perfect for 2–3 nights in East or South Izu

Onsen ryokan for two

Traditional inns with hot springs can be both romantic and restful. We prefer smaller places where the atmosphere is more warm than formal.

  • Private or semi-private baths
  • Seasonal dinners with local ingredients
  • Calm public spaces and clear quiet hours
Accommodation suggestions and links will be added as we personally test and select quiet stays that match the mood of Izu Romance. We prefer a few good places over a long list.

Simple itineraries for 2–3 days

You do not need ten spots per day. You need a gentle rhythm and space to breathe. Here are two soft examples of how a romantic Izu trip can feel.

2 days – East + South Izu

Day 1 – Arrival & first onsen
Arrive in Atami or Ito in the afternoon. Check in to a sea-view room, walk slowly along the coast, and end the day in a small local onsen.

Day 2 – White-sand morning
Move down to Shimoda for a quiet beach morning and a seaside café. Return to Tokyo in the late afternoon, feeling like you’ve had a full, gentle break.

3 days – Hakone + West & Middle Izu

Day 1 – Classic Hakone loop
Ropeways, lake views, and classic sightseeing. Stay in Hakone or move to Izu in the evening.

Day 2 – West Izu sunset
Travel to West Izu, check in to a hillside inn, and spend the evening finding your favorite sunset spot with Fuji in the distance.

Day 3 – Forest morning in Middle Izu
Stop by Shuzenji for a slow walk through town and by the river, then head back to the city without rushing.

Izu is not about seeing more, but about feeling more—together.
